Spring golf weekend at Hardelot from 17-19 April, 2015
The weekend was very well supported – 36 took part, of which 34 golfers. Several non Standard Athletic Club members were invited this time, and we all enjoyed sunny, if chilly, weather. In addition, and this seems to be a constant for us golfers, the wind always seemed to be unfavourable…..
Spring Weekend at Sancerre - April 2014
The Golf Section held its traditional spring weekend outing from April 25-27 at Sancerre, returning to the same venue that had been a success 8 years previously.
Limère Autumn Weekend, 3-5 Oct, 2014
The Golf Section held its Autumn weekend away at the Limère course near Orléans from Friday October 3 to Sunday October 5. A rather small contingent of SAC stalwarts, augmented by a select group of friends from Villarceaux, experienced an extremely pleasant weekend and a very friendly atmosphere. Organiser James Moore got the weather right, organised excellent food both at the club house and at the hotel, and as far as the golf is concerned, let us say that James cannot be held responsible….
Golf Weekends
Twice a year carefully selected members of the Golf Section descend upon an unsuspecting golf course and subject it and themselves to 2 1/2 days of intense punishment.
The keenest folk will arrive on the Friday afternoon for a reconnaissance, selecting the best bits of fairway to avoid and identifying the choicest bits of rough and the hazards that will be privileged during the following day's competition.
For Saturday is indeed serious stuff, as two trophies are being competed for: the Kiwi Cup for the best Net score presented by Alan Kerr in 1985 as a parting gift upon his return to New Zealand champion, and the Dean Trophy, presented by current member Andrew Dean for the best scratch score.
After the pressures of Saturday, the Sunday outing is generally a gentle scramble for those who have survived the previous 36 hours, after which it's home to lick one's wounds.
