Cricket News

The new season has got under way very gently with mixed weather. Having opted out of the League and Cup competitions we ae only playing friendly games this year.Several matches have been rain affected and two abandoned because of downpours when Standard were cruising to (certain?) victory.

This season has seen our first venture into 20/20 cricket with wins over Prague CC. We also had an all day game against a UK touring side, which reminded some of us of the good old days.

There have been some fine performances. Young Ian Hellawell has notched up two undefeated centuries, Les Clack got a hatrick, and two weeks later Paul Goring also got a hatrick. What a team!

We're pleased to welcome a new member, a very enthusiastic and handy young player, Gawain Lagnado.

Unfortunately one of our stars, Jon Riches, has sustained a knee injury and will be out of action for a few weeks. Another star, Nigel Drummond was struck on the head by a ball from a fast bowler last weekend and won't be out of action at all!

Our next 20/20 game is on 18th July, and if the weather settles down we're looking forward to a great summer of cricket.
